Beach Dress for Sri Lanka
Beachwears in Sri Lanka
Many Europeans are used to wear as less clothing as possible when going swimming and sunbathing, so that as such much skin as possible is exposed to the sunrays. (This by the way is totally opposite of what Sri Lankan people want: with the slightest sunshine they open up their parasols, so that they do not get too “tanned”).
In Sri Lanka the population in the tourist centres has got used to the fact that it is possible to see some holidaymakers wearing “thong” at the beach. But they rather see this as unmoral. Additionally, bathing “topless” is only tolerated and seen as not correct.
We at the Lotus-Villa have the following solution: In our private area you can walk around “topless” if however, you want to go to the beach, you should wear a swimming costume or trunks, as a law exists that prohibits the public display “in indecent clothing” – what ever this means. Some beach policemen however turn a blind eye and instead rather pocket something from the hotel management.
