Our own thoughts:

In Ayurveda, your own personal thoughts are taken very seriously since they affect your well-being. Many patients get up in the morning thinking that they are ill. This thought is then repeated throughout the day until one goes to bed. This way one is getting brain-washed by oneself and develops a "self-fulfilling prophesy" which turns into a self-fulfilling prognosis. Everybody knows that constant repetition of the same thoughts (consciously or unconsciously) will re-inforce a certain behaviour pattern or illness.

Even thoughts which seem to be positive (but are in fact expressions of doubts) belong to this category, for example: "Perhaps Ayurveda might help me", or "Let's see if it's any good or not", or "I have already tried so many things...".There is an Asian proverb which says that it is much better following up one thing properly than trying out many different methods just to see whether it works or not.

Especially, if you are suffering from an illness, or even several illnesses, it is very important to be clear which way you want to go and which image you have of yourself. If you see yourself as incurable it will be very difficult for you to recover. Other people also affect your way of thinking - consciously or unconsciously.

One study by a health insurance company recorded on tape everything doctors said during an operation and they found a striking link with the length of time the patients stayed in hospital. Those patients whose doctors spoke positively about them, e.g. "this case is easy..." were discharged from hospital up to two weeks earlier compared to those whose doctors spoke negatively about them. Therefore, please be aware of what relatives and friends are saying when you are ill and they feel sorry for you! You might get more damage than good!

We believe it is very important to think about yourself and your problem in a positive way. You may use three to five positive thoughts in the morning whilst in the bathroom, for example. And after a few days you will find that your habitual negative thoughts are subsiding and ridiculous.

Unhelpful thoughts you should "erase":
"I am ill."
"Nobody can help me."
"I am feeling really bad."

Other thoughts which label your current life situation negatively should also be thrown into the garbage bin:
"I don't have enough money to do anything about this."
"I can't find any work."
"I am not very much liked by others."
"I am a born loser."
"I can't find a partner or friend."
"I am an unlucky person."
"Other people are happier than me."
...

You have the choice to wash your own brain positively or negatively!!!
"I am well liked."
"I am healthy."
"I am successful."
...

Actually, it is not important that you believe your own thoughts. The old thoughts also needed time to become effective. It is more important that you are thinking these positive thoughts as often as possible! People have found it useful to write positive thoughts on small pieces of paper and put them in the bathroom or into their purse to remind themselves.
