Often we are addressed, when it goes to the political situation in Sri Lanka. In newspaper articles negatives are announced again and again and it is saíd that the German office of External affairs has expressed even a travel warning. Here at first information about

"TRAVEL WARNING":

The German external office expressed for Sri Lanka a so-called travel ADVICE but NO travel WARNING. A large difference is made there. The cause lies - as often in life - with the money: because in an "emergency" on one hand the state has to pay for the return journey and on the other one the traveler.

"FRIENDS, ACQUAINTANCES AND EVEN SOME TRAVEL AGENCIES DISADVICE"

Also one tells us that even friends and acquaintances have adviced against a journey to Sri Lanka or that one had to succeed in the travel agency accurately, in order to receive a ticket at all.

We know that other countries e.g.the Maledives, which play on the special situation and offer or promise "special prices" particularly when contacting smaller European agencies and ask them to "switch" prospective customers for Sri Lanka. Some people consider this as "more clever". We suffer from it, paricularly because many Singhalese are Buddists and attribute such "attacks" rather to the "Karma" as to their own inattentiveness. Specially those agents snatch the offer of a "special price", which have suffered already from and after Tsunami.

AS WE SEE THAT:
DO YOUR FRIENDS ADVISE YOU AGAINST TO COME TO SRI LANKA "BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE"? DO YOU ADVISE THE FRIENDS HOWEVER TO COME ALONG WITH YOU!


"NEGATIVE HEADLINES ABOUT SRI LANKA":

This topic is very delicate, because different groupings (both belonging near the terrorists and the government) have large interest in negative messages and some reporters are not completely free from corruptibility. Certainly you know that weapon business ranks among the most lucrative businesses of the world. And that applies to both sides! We advise you to large caution particularly if negative articles appear regularly in a newspaper (e.g. all 2 to 6 months).


"HOW IS THE POLITICAL SITUATION?"

This is a question, whose answer we ourselves would be happy to know. There are so many different rumors and opinions, that we do ourselves not dare a capable judgement. Here are only three samples which however in no case raise requirement on completeness:

- the Englishmen brought in the Tamils from India as cheap immigrant workers for the tea plucking, because they picked more rapidly than the "natives"
- the Americans have interest in the harbor of Trincomalee, because there can anchor also large warships, whose projectiles can fly as far as to Moscow
- even a legend is endeavored: allegedly North Indians landed already some centuries or thousands of years ago (number data dependent on the storyteller) and have populated on the Island and therefore Sri Lanka belongs to the Indians.
