Diving and Snorkeling


Again and again we hear from people who have been diving for some time that Sri Lanka is not a "paradise for divers". On the other hand some divers have told us about 2 nice places: Hikkaduwa on the southern coast and Trincomalee on the eastern coast. Our Lotus-Villa is not far away from Hikkaduwa. Both places are also suitable for snorkelling and both places offer diving and snorkelling equipment for hire.

In Sri Lanka there are several diving schools which open from November until May. During the other months the sea is often rough – because of the monsoon in India – and therefore not very suitable for beginners. Please refer to the pages "Weather in general".

Directly in front of our Lotus-Villa there is a very clean sandy beach. However, snorkeling is not suitable there since "nothing can be seen". One of our guests made the comment: "It’s like being in the Sahara...". The advantage is that our beach is very safe since there are neither rocks nor sea weed which can cause any danger.

We would like to remind you that our Lotus-Villa is not a holiday resort. Our guests come purely for ayurvedic treatments. This means that long periods away from the Lotus-Villa are not possible. Therefore, we would advise you to have your diving or snorkeling holiday either before or after our ayurvedic treatment programme.
